Cape Fynbos - Ceramic Workshop

Join Barrington’s in celebrating the treasured Cape fynbos floral kingdom!  An informative talk by experts in the field of all things fauna and flora from Nature’s Valley Trust is followed by a short break. Then get creative with Nanamma Ceramic Studio who will guide you through the process of creating your very own, unique fynbos ceramic treasure.  All materials are supplied. Refreshments will be available to purchase off Barrington’s regular breakfast or lunch menu on the day.

ABOUT NANAMMA

Nanamma is a creative space where individuals of all ages and abilities come together through their shared love of form, texture and colour in the artistic process. The name "Nanamma" embodies the spirit of togetherness. Through the practice of meaningful and liberating activities such as working with clay, we foster a deeper connection with ourselves, our planet, and the living beings that inhabit it.

Mashca Taylor managed a bronze sculpting foundry (Dionysus Sculpture Works) in her early twenties where she had the opportunity to work alongside world-renowned sculptor Angus Taylor. Thereafter she studied Autistic Spectrum Disorders in the UK and created a passion-driven employment centre for individuals who are differently abled. Once she became a parent, she moved onto a farm in Gouna, Knysna, and started pottery classes with Lesley Etherington. Many years later, Mashca moved to Plettenberg bay where she started mobile pottery classes. Her passion for facilitating a space where people can hone their joy of creating vs. consuming encouraged her to take this grounding experience to schools, old age homes, rehabs and a foster home.

Mashca and her mother create the Cape Fynbos Treasure ceramic products, imprinting the fynbos into clay, to remind us to pay attention to its detail, diversity and vulnerability. Fynbos is known for its exceptional degree of biodiversity and endemism. It is the most studied vegetation type outside of Europe and is only found in the Western Cape, South Africa. Ten percent of Nanamma sales is donated to Nature’s Valley Trust as they do so much towards awareness and conservation of the Cape Fynbos.
