A Khoisan dance workshop featuring the Rieldans. "Dans lat die stof so staan" at this workshop of indigenous dance and music. Plett's own troupe of accomplished Riel dancers from Kranshoek participate in this high energy dance form and will later perform at the Uhadi concert, so get a ticket for that show as well.
African Waves Arts Festival brings ancient cultures together at Plett Arts this year. You're invited not just to be an observer, but to dance the dance originally known as Ikhapara, derived from the word "khapas" which means hat. The hat of the man is a useful article to win a lady's hand in marriage.
It is an age-old dance of the Khoisan hunters which later gained distinct Irish and Scottish folk music influences, all performed to the beat of boeremusiek. This lively dance was danced around the campfire after hunting expeditions, good harvests and all manner of celebrations.
