poet WAS LEMUEL will be reciting a collection of poems over percussions and
keys. His offering will have you reflecting deeply on life, spirituality and
the pursuit of freedom. His journey towards self-actualization though
philosophical ponderings and fearless expressions take the audience along the
meandering tracks of life which run across love and loss, suffering and joy.
ABOUT WAS LEMUEL
Sphelele Mbangwa – pen name WAS LEMUEL,
is a young published poet and writer
born in Matatiele but now resides in Plettenberg Bay. He is the author of A Lusty Longing for Life Love and Liberty, an
popularity as a local poet, most of his supporters are unaware that his name is
actually an acronym - hence it is written in all caps. WAS LEMUEL stand for
Wamkelwe Aviwe Sphelele, Live Every Moment Under Elohim's Love. To him it is an
instruction as well as a reminder that no matter the turmoil he goes through,
his spiritual gaze should always be fixed upon the omnipresent love of God.
WAS gets his
inspiration from life in general - love, tragedy, dreams, and his experiences and those shared
with him by the people he meets.
He prides himself
in being a prolific writer - his debut anthology has more than 70 poems.
He has performed
before dignitaries of diverse fields and opened the stage for gospel artists
Dumi Mkokstad, Jumbo, Yonela Vuthela and Lord Comforters among others. He has
performed accompanied by Dizu Plaatjies of Amampondo fame.
This will be his
third show at the Plett Arts Fest.
