Kurt Schoonraad is a renowned South African comedian, actor and entrepreneur, known for his quick wit, dynamic stage presence. With his earthy humour and comedic range he connects with audiences from every corner of South Africa, not to mention internationally, even making the front page of the New York Times.
Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Schoonraad is a prominent figure in the country's entertainment industry, earning accolades for his comedic talent and contributions to the arts. He is also a well loved corporate entertainer. Kurt has shared to stage and screen with some of the world’s best over his career i.e. John Cleese, Russel Peters and Paulie Shaw. Kurt Schoonraad is one of South Africa’s most instantly recognisable stand-up comedians.
With his earthy humour and comedic range he connects with audiences from every corner of South Africa, not to mention internationally, even making the front page of the New York Times.The actor and comedian says that hailing from Mitchell’s Plain in Cape Town, was highly influential in developing his sense of humour and comedy style.
Beyond his work as a comedian, Kurt has also made significant contributions to the development of South Africa's comedy scene. In 1997, he founded the Cape Town Comedy Club, one of South Africa's first dedicated comedy venues, providing a platform for both established and up-and-coming comedians to showcase their talent. The club quickly became a cornerstone of the local comedy scene and upon its opening at the V&A Waterfront , Cape Town’s No 1 tourist attraction, it played a crucial role in nurturing new talent and attracting international artists to its stage. The club was voted into the “Top Ten Best Comedy Clubs in the World”
